Big Thief Launch 'Big Thief Live Archive'
The new archive opens with 10 live shows, inviting fans to explore the band’s evolving sound through the years, alongside a new live release of ‘Incomprehensible’ recorded in Dublin.
Following the release of their album Double Infinity last year, Big Thief have announced the launch of the Big Thief Live Archive, a new website dedicated to documenting the breadth, spontaneity and ever-evolving nature of the band’s live performances.
The archive offers fans the opportunity to explore full concert recordings from across the band’s recent and distant past, capturing the unique energy and changing interpretations that define each performance. Initially launching with 10 shows, the collection will expand with a new concert recording added on the second Tuesday of every month, with the band intending to continue the project indefinitely. The archive is free to access.
Big Thief began recording their live shows around 2019, working with front-of-house engineer Alice Wilder and monitor engineer Aleda Deroche to capture performances, with the recordings mixed by 4AD’s in-house engineer Fabian Prynn. Inspired in part by James Krivchenia’s appreciation for the Grateful Dead’s live releases, the website also features an interactive playlist function, allowing listeners to create their own sets by selecting favourite performances from across the growing collection.
In a message to fans, the band explained the thinking behind the project:
“Every show we play holds a different energy. The songs are always changing and sound different every night, and we spend so much more time on the road than in studios, and so we felt a desire to create something that captures the ever-undulating aliveness of our music through time.”
Alongside the archive launch, Big Thief have shared a special live recording of ‘Incomprehensible’, one of the standout tracks from Double Infinity. Recorded at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, on 29 April 2026, the performance is available now across all streaming platforms.
The band closed their announcement with a message of gratitude to the fans who have accompanied them over the years: “Thank you so much to all who have come out to our shows over the years, it’s been such a treat revisiting these. We love you so much!”
