Dummy Share Final Single ‘N of 1’ Ahead of New Album do you love the color of the sky? and Announce UK & European Tour
The Los Angeles experimental pop band release their latest single and video ahead of Friday’s Polyvinyl album release, with UK dates including Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester and London in January 2027.
Los Angeles-based experimental pop band Dummy have shared their new single and accompanying video, ‘N of 1’, the final preview of their forthcoming album, do you love the color of the sky?, arriving this Friday via Polyvinyl Record Co. The band have also announced a run of UK and European tour dates for January and February 2027.
Featuring Alex Ewell, Emma Maatman, Nathan O’Dell, Joe Trainor and Lance Umble, Dummy continue to push the boundaries of experimental pop, combining hypnotic guitar textures, intricate rhythms and melodic vocals with an increasingly adventurous approach to songwriting.
‘N of 1’ brings together glacial guitar drones and jungle-inspired percussion, reshaping these contrasting elements into a track that balances atmospheric experimentation with an infectious rhythmic pulse.
Discussing the single, guitarist Joe Trainor explains: “I liked the idea of taking glacial guitar drones and cutting ‘em up into a new context of the jungle inspired drums. To me, so much of the record is like the remixed versions of pop songs you'll never hear.”
The track also explores the growing reach of surveillance culture, addressing how society has become conditioned to accept increasingly intrusive monitoring. Keyboardist Emma Maatman describes the song as “a plea to both the proprietors and the more complacent subjects of the ever-encroaching surveillance state.”
The accompanying video, directed by Maatman, uses Google Street View-inspired zooming imagery to reflect the song's rhythm and themes. As she explains, the visual concept developed from the idea that the movement of Street View would complement the track's energy, with the rest of the video falling into place from there.
do you love the color of the sky? Pushes Dummy Into New Territory
The forthcoming album follows 2024's Free Energy and its subsequent remix release, Bubbelibrium DLC. While those projects embraced the euphoric spirit of Madchester and rave culture, do you love the color of the sky? takes a more sceptical and introspective direction.
Drawing on the experimental textures of artists such as Seefeel, Windy & Carl, Laika and Disco Inferno, the record explores post-rock, drone and psychedelic pop while retaining a colourful melodic sensibility. Influences ranging from early Björk and The Sundays to Madonna's Ray of Light sit alongside the band's own distinctive combination of layered instrumentation and unexpected rhythmic shifts.
Despite its futuristic sonic palette, Dummy's approach remains rooted in traditional songwriting and a commitment to their craft. The new material balances dark lyrical themes with playful arrangements, creating music that moves between expansive soundscapes, driving grooves and accessible pop melodies.
The album also reflects the impact of the band's relentless touring schedule since Free Energy. Joe Trainor recalls that the group played approximately 113 shows across around 150 days on the road, while Alex Ewell notes that they have increasingly performed on larger stages.
That experience has helped shape the new record, encouraging Dummy to develop arrangements that extend beyond straightforward live reproduction. Rather than simply recreating their studio recordings on stage, the band have embraced a more fluid and experimental approach to performance and production.
The result is a record that builds on Dummy's established sound while pushing it into new territory, bringing together ambitious production, intricate rhythms and an enduring sense of musical curiosity.
Dummy Announce UK and European Tour for 2027
To accompany the album's release, Dummy will head to the UK and Europe in January and February 2027, with dates taking in Bristol, Leeds, Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and London before continuing into mainland Europe.
The tour will also see the band perform in Paris, Tourcoing, Bruges, Amsterdam and Berlin, bringing their experimental, rhythm-driven sound to audiences across the continent.
The European dates follow a busy run of North American performances in October and November 2026, including shows in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver and Los Angeles. Several of the North American dates are marked as sold out, reflecting the band's growing live following.
With do you love the color of the sky?, Dummy continue to explore the space between experimental music and pop, pairing an interest in sonic disruption with a strong sense of melody. ‘N of 1’ offers a final glimpse into the record's distinctive world, where hypnotic grooves and inviting harmonies sit alongside a more politically conscious lyrical perspective.
