Elephant Return With New Single ‘About You’, Recorded at Legendary Rockfield Studios
Rotterdam indie-rock quartet Elephant release their new single ‘About You’ on 21 October 2026 via V2 Records, marking the first taste of a new body of work due next year.
Rotterdam’s indie-rock quartet Elephant are back with their new single, ‘About You’, released on 21 October 2026 via V2 Records. Recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales, the track sees the band embrace a bigger, sharper and more urgent sound while retaining the melodic warmth and understated vocals that have become their trademark.
The single offers the first glimpse of a new collection of music expected next year, with further details set to emerge over the coming months.
At its heart, ‘About You’ is a bittersweet reflection on longing for a time when love and life felt lighter, simpler and less complicated. That sense of nostalgia runs through the song’s warm melodies and laid-back delivery, while a newfound intensity gives the track an added sense of momentum.
The band are particularly proud of the result, describing it as a defining moment in their development.
“We feel like we have written our first perfect song. It has everything we love about making music, and somehow everything just fell into place. Recording at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales brought out something we’d been looking for in our sound for years. There’s a certain magic to the place, which we feel is captured in the raw and powerful sound of ‘About You’.”
A Legendary Studio and a New Chapter
The recording of ‘About You’ brought Elephant to Rockfield Studios in Wales, working with producer Ian Laughton, known for his work with Nada Surf and Ash, alongside engineer Nick Brine, whose credits include Oasis and The Stone Roses.
The studio and engineering connection carries particular significance for the new single: Rockfield and Brine were also part of the story behind Oasis’ landmark album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, released in 1995.
With its nod to the melodic spirit of the ’90s and a more expansive production, ‘About You’ captures Elephant pushing their sound forward without losing the qualities that first set them apart.
The result is a track that balances tenderness and urgency, pairing wistful subject matter with a more powerful sonic presence. For a band whose music has always combined melodic guitar work with an underlying current of melancholy, it feels like a natural evolution.
From ‘Big Thing’ to Bigger Stages
Often described as the gentle giants of Dutch indie rock, Elephant first established their reputation with their acclaimed debut album, Big Thing, in 2022. The Rotterdam four-piece built a distinctive sound around melodic guitars, understated vocals and an effortless sense of atmosphere, with a darker emotional edge beneath the surface.
Their 2025 album, III, saw the band turn up the volume and expand their sonic ambitions. That evolution translated to the live stage, where Elephant have appeared at major festivals including Lowlands, Pinkpop and Best Kept Secret.
Following a European tour with indie-rock favourites Nada Surf, the band were invited by producer Ian Laughton to record at Rockfield Studios. The resulting sessions have helped bring a new dimension to Elephant’s sound, with ‘About You’ offering an early indication of what lies ahead.
Live Dates and Upcoming Shows
To celebrate the release of ‘About You’, Elephant will play a special single-release party at De Zwarte Ruiter in The Hague on 5 November, before supporting Dutch rock favourites DI-RECT at two arena shows at Rotterdam Ahoy later in the month.
