Mick Harvey & Amanda Acevedo Share New Track ‘The Stolen Fire’ Ahead of UK and European Tour
The Australian-Mexican duo unveil a new track from the Psychedelia in White sessions, with live dates across Europe and Scandinavia culminating at London’s 100 Club on 4 November.
Australian-Mexican duo Mick Harvey & Amanda Acevedo have shared a new track, ‘The Stolen Fire’, recorded during the sessions for their latest album, Psychedelia in White, out now via Mute. Continuing the pair’s ongoing psychedelic journey, the release arrives ahead of their upcoming UK and European dates supporting Mercury Rev, followed by a run of headline shows across Sweden, Norway and the UK.
The new track offers a further glimpse into the creative world of Psychedelia in White, the duo’s third album together and a significant progression in their collaborative songwriting. Where their debut and subsequent release, Golden Mirrors (The Uncovered Sessions Vol. 1), leaned predominantly towards reinterpretations, the new album sees Harvey and Acevedo embrace original material, drawing on mythology, folklore, love, hope, loss and mysticism.
Across seven original compositions, Psychedelia in White explores the idea of finding refuge amid the chaos and confusion of the outside world. Building on themes first introduced on their debut, the album takes a more adventurous musical direction, moving through playful psychedelic detours and richly imagined storytelling. ‘Song for Aurora’, for instance, pays tribute to Marc Bolan, weaving in references to T. Rex.
The album also features three reinterpretations: a newly recorded version of PJ Harvey’s ‘Slow-Motion-Movie-Star’, previously recorded by Mick Harvey for his 2007 album Two of Diamonds, alongside translations by Harvey and Acevedo of Silvio Rodríguez’s ‘Sueño Con Serpientes’ (‘Dream of Serpents’) and José María Cano and Mecano’s ‘Bride of the Sea’.
Acevedo first met Harvey in Mexico City several years ago, while he was touring with PJ Harvey. Their current musical partnership took shape in 2021, and in the years since, the duo have released two albums, toured extensively across Europe and Australia, and developed a distinctive shared musical language. With Psychedelia in White, their songwriting continues to evolve, taking listeners deeper into a kaleidoscopic world of myth, romance and psychedelia.
‘The Stolen Fire’ arrives as the duo prepare to join Mercury Rev for a series of UK and European dates beginning in Dublin on 14 October, with further performances in Glasgow, Manchester, London, Utrecht, Hasselt, Leuven, Paris, Bruges and Copenhagen. Harvey and Acevedo will then continue with headline shows across Sweden and Norway before returning to London to conclude the run at The 100 Club on 4 November.
Psychedelia in White is out now via Mute on white vinyl, CD and digital formats.
