Sundots Share New Single and Video ‘Someone Else’s Song’ Ahead of New Album On The Quay
Connecticut indie rock band Sundots have released their new single and accompanying video, ‘Someone Else’s Song’, the third track to be previewed from their forthcoming album On The Quay, due for release on 6 November.
The new track arrives as the band prepares to release its first full-length album written and recorded as a five-piece. The record represents a new stage for sundots, bringing together the full band to create what they describe as a more expansive representation of their sound.
‘Someone Else’s Song’ was written after the band initially believed the album was complete. According to vocalist and guitarist Drew Collins, the song developed from an idea he had been experimenting with and immediately stood apart from the rest of the record.
“Someone Else’s Song actually came about after we had thought we had finished the record,” Collins says. “It was something I had started jamming on and felt pretty excited about. It definitely had a different energy from the other songs on the record.”
He describes the track as short, high-energy and relentless, with little space to pause between sections.
Collins also drew inspiration from James Joyce's The Dead when developing the lyrics. He had recently finished reading Dubliners, using imagery from the collection as a starting point for the song.
“I was very inspired by 'The Dead' by James Joyce,” Collins explains. “I had recently finished Dubliners and had a ton of imagery from that floating around in my head, and naturally, I explored that headspace when approaching the lyrics for this track.”
The timing also coincided with the development of the album artwork, prompting the band to return to producer Kevin S. McMahon to record the additional song.
sundots Record On The Quay
Much of On The Quay came together during a writing and recording weekend in Vermont at the end of 2025.
The five members travelled to a secluded Airbnb with the aim of writing and demoing as much material as possible, eventually establishing the foundations of the new album.
McMahon, whose previous work includes Real Estate, Widowspeak and Swans, subsequently produced, engineered and mixed all 12 tracks.
The collaboration was aimed at capturing the energy of sundots' live performances while retaining space and spontaneity within the recordings.
On The Quay will be the first sundots album made entirely as a five-piece, featuring vocalist and guitarist Drew Collins, guitarist Jake Fucci, bassist Austin Traver, guitarist and synth player Teo Hernandez, and drummer Nick Restivo.
