Sylvan Esso Bring Ow ∞ to the UK and Europe
Ow ∞ marks Sylvan Esso’s first new album in four years and their first release through their own record label, Psychic Hotline. The record finds band members Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn exploring themes of personal transformation, collective experience and the uncertainty of modern life.
Named by The New York Times as one of the most anticipated projects of the autumn, the album embraces a world shaped by environmental crises, personal upheaval and fragmented memories, transforming these experiences into an experimental and emotionally charged collection of songs.
Produced by Meath and Sanborn, Ow ∞ features 12 tracks that reflect the duo’s increasingly collaborative and improvisational approach to making music. Highlights include “Hot Slob”, “Concrete Glen” and “On & On”.
The album was developed over several years at Betty’s, the band’s studio in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. During that time, Sylvan Esso worked with an extensive community of musicians, incorporating live instrumentation, electronics and experimental arrangements into a record that expands their distinctive electronic-pop sound.
Contributors include Daniel Aged, BJ Burton, Matt Douglas, Glenn Kotche, Jake Luppen, TJ Maiani, James Mapley-Brittle, Buddy Ross, Jenn Wasner and Joe Westerlund. Across the album, six different drummers also contributed to the sessions.
The release is accompanied by an immersive visual world featuring animated characters and artwork created by artist Eric Timothy Carlson. Fans can listen to Ow ∞ on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital platforms via Psychic Hotline.
The duo have also released a video for “Sledge”, a track written against the backdrop of Hurricane Helene and the Los Angeles wildfires. The song channels feelings of apocalyptic anxiety into a powerful meditation on destruction, control and surrender.
With Ow ∞, Sylvan Esso continue to develop their own creative direction, releasing music through their own label and working with collaborators of their choosing. The upcoming UK and European shows will give audiences an opportunity to experience the new material live.
